Go see the paper mache Ferrari with the JST DRV license plate that Alexandra Papadakis made. It is on display in the center hall foyer. Look up! Give her a shoutout!

Lots happening on Monday...

Monday begins the vote. Pass the word to everyone you know to vote for Massapequa every day from May 11-22! MHS students who vote every day, answer 5 questions and complete an entry form will be entered into a contest to win a Westfield Sunrise Mall gift card. Listen to the morning announcements every day this week to find out how you enter and what the questions are..

Monday Congressman Peter King visited MHS to congratulate the students. He awarded them a Citation which read:

Honoring

Massapequa High School

2009 Act Out Loud Finalist

WHEREAS, National Youth Traffic Safety Month is held each May to help spread traffic safety awareness in an effort to change the startling statistic that automobile crashes continue to be the #1 cause of death and injuries for teens in the U.S.; and

WHEREAS, I commend the students in the Massapequa High School Communication Academy who submitted their successful youth-led safe driving campaign proposals to the National Organization for Youth Safety -- 2009 Act Out Loud Contest; and

WHEREAS, Massapequa High School was chosen as one of 20 high schools in the nation, and the only one in New York State, to compete for a $10,000 award to continue youth traffic safety efforts; and

WHEREAS, in an effort to spread safe driving messages the students enlisted as many fellow students as possible to contribute to this project; including a window display at the Sunrise Mall and a social networking campaign and blog encouraging involvement from the students and the community to bring attention to this serious issue.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Peter T. King, Member of Congress, do hereby award this citation to

Monday we hope the Wesfield Sunrise Mall display is up (scroll down for blog entry with mural).

Thanks to all who worked on this project so far, The Allstate Foundation and NOYS. We have been asked if more students can contribute...yes...yes...yes...keep the work coming. We plan to continue this project year after year as we have had such a great response.

Students in Mr. Everitt's Web Page Design II class are building a new Flash website and we will transfer all student work over to it when it is ready. Keep up the great work, spread the word to drive safe and keep coming back to visit our blog to see the new work being published.

Thanks to Ms. Scamardella's and Mr. Shapiro's classes for posting banners and signs throughout our hallways urging everyone to vote.
